On Sunday the 7th of September Jack English, a teacher at Kelso High, represented Australia in the 70.3 Ironman World Championship in Mont Tremblant, Canada.
Jack English finished the 1.9km swim, 90km bike ride and 21.1km run in 4 hours and 56 mins. He came 165 in his age group, out of 229 and 1060 out of 2640 competitors from across the world.
Jack English has only been training for the sport of triathlon for a little over 3 years, inspired by his brother-in-law, Martin Barnes, who completed in the full version of the Ironman in Hawaii in 2011. Although he did not achieve a personal best on the world class course, Jack was extremely happy with his performance. Jack said, “I really enjoyed the race and its atmosphere. My aim was to complete the race in less than 5 hours, which I achieved. The run was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, the hills just kept on coming, but you have to expect that from a world championship race course.”
Well done Mr English from all the staff and students at Kelso High!
